3 proven ways to improve your written and spoken English

In my career of online working of almost 2 decades, alongside my lessons I have learned, I have also learned that your survival online depends on one skill. You need to learn how to communicate in English.

Now, most Asians do not speak in English because we usually prefer conversing in our local languages in school, colleges and even universities.

But for acing online business, you have to work on your English, write and speak well but you need to realize, it does not happen overnight. Everything takes time and English is no exception. You can’t learn a new language overnight that you do not have a command in. You can take the 1st step today towards making an effort to learn it. Here is what you need to do to improve your English. There is no magic wand but if you are determined to reshape your life, take the following steps.

1- Reading is very important:

You can improve your English by reading. Start reading but it is very important to read what inspires you. When I was growing up as a kid, I used to read a lot of sports-related magazines. Don’t follow the crowd and ask them for a book recommendation.

Their life is different, the circumstances they are surrounded in are different and so is their attitude towards life. Read books related to your interest, otherwise, you will lose interest in reading in the very beginning. Don’t read what you don’t like. For example, you love fashion and you are recommended to read western politics, you will fall in a no man’s land wondering what are you doing here and that would not serve the purpose of learning.

2- Learn a few words by heart:

This is the best advice I could ever give you. Pick a dictionary, start learning 2 words a day. Try to understand their meanings and try to memorize those words.

Once you have remembered ten new words at least. Go to the internet and see how these words can be used in a sentence. This way you will be able to not only learn new words but also learn how to use them in a sentence. I followed this golden advice of learning two words every day when I was 16 and I just stepped into university. The words I’ve memorized are still used in my conversation and are reflected in my writing.

3- Find someone to talk to in English.

See, you can only become better if you start practising English. Ever wondered how most of the actors from Asia or even sportsmen end up speaking so good English. It is only because of their interaction with people from different countries.

For you to get better at spoken English requires speaking it with someone. Find a friend and encourage them to correct you for your mistakes.
