According to thebalance.com, the name was first recorded in 1966 by Earl Apfelbaum. In his ad – he stated, black Friday as a name Philadelphia police department gave to the Friday after Thanksgiving Day.
Retailers discarded the negative annotation associated with a black day of the week and wanted to make Black Friday a positive, profitable business day. Ever since, Black Friday is used by the businesses all over the world to promote product deals and discounts.
