Spotify and Apple Music

In the two days of Facebook’s F8 conference including interactive demos, announcements, and practices that keeps users looking ahead, the sessions feature a wide range of topics across the company’s apps and services. It not only features the platform’s latest products and innovations but also introduces ways to make the world more open and connected.

This year’s sessions also featured some unique perspectives including music on Messenger. According to the platform’s executives in the F8 conference, Facebook plans to bake in Spotify and Apple Music directly into the Messenger.

For that purpose, the feature will be using a Messenger Platform tool known as Chat Extensions. This will allow the users to perform actions within Messenger for which they used to switch apps previously. From the Messenger’s app list, users will have to pick Spotify and search for an artist or song they like and then just share it directly in the Messenger. This will not require them to exit the chat browser in order to browse in an app or webpage for music.

It isn’t still clear whether there will be a way to sync playback music with the people user’s are chatting with that would make it a more enhanced social experience. But maybe this is something the company focuses later on. there is no detail given by facebook regarding other music services. As Facebook has made the Chat Extensions part of the Messenger, it is expected that other companies will start working on integrating their services into the platform.
