T-Mobile is switching to a low-frequency 5G network next month. Earlier, T-Mobile promised that its nationwide 5G network was coming before the end of the current year. The company now says it will launch on December 6.
CEO John Legere and COO Mike Seivert revealed that T-Mobile 5G will be launched on the said date. The new network will be faster and cover 5,000 cities and towns in the country, announced a webcast.
The company initially said that Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus 5G and the OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren will be the first two phones capable of working with the new network.
As of now, no price is revealed for the devices but there are rumors that Seivert says that T-Mobile existing plans with have access to 5G with no extra charges.
T-Mobile 5G launched in six cities that supported millimeter-wave, a high-frequency technology that is currently used by Verizon and AT&T for their 5G networks is struggling to cover large areas or provide service indoors.
The new network will support a low-band spectrum which would probably be not as quick as millimeter-wave but will support and offer far better coverage.
Many other devices connected to different types of 5G networks won’t be available to the new network until 2020.
