New AI assistant Viki for Nokia

Nokia has not just reentered the smartphone market; the latest versions of its phones reflect the brands intentions to create more than just basic models. Nokia has recently indicated on creating its own artificial intelligence assistant Viki.

Reports state that the actual company Nokia has filed a trademark request with the European Union for the virtual assistant. According to the filing,

“Software for the formation and monitoring of mobile and web digital assistants working with knowledge along with combining all data sources in the form of a single chat as well as voice based interface”.

The filing contains a wary typo in the form of a misspelled word “assistant”. It does not mean that there is something wrong with the filing; it can be a random mistake by the Nokia Company. This news just came after the HMD announced its upcoming Nokia 6. This device will just be available in China later this year and will be priced $250 (1,669 CNY).

It is still not clear whether the new AI-powered assistant will be working with the HMD Global or Nokia would be operating independently for this AI assistant. It still remains to be seen whether Viki will make its way to other Android devices or sticks exclusively to the brand.

With the Huawei’s recent plan of bringing Alexa to its flagship Mate 9 handset, it seems that virtual assistants have become a norm for all handsets. This time Nokia will have to cater a whole new market for surviving the competition.
