TikTok is introducing generative AI avatars. Here’s what they look like

According to social media consultant Matt Navarra, who shared images and videos of the tool with The Verge, TikTok is developing a feature to create AI-generated profile pictures. At first glance, the tool creates headshots that might resemble what you’d see in Prisma Labs’ Lensa app, but since it would be built directly into TikTok, you might soon find yourself scrolling through your feed and seeing a lot more AI-generated avatars than you were previously able to see.

How it works:

A user is asked to submit three to ten photos and then select from two to five different styles for the final AI-generated images, according to Navarra. The process of generating the photos takes some time once you have done so. Once they are ready, you can download them, set one as your avatar, or post one to your TikTok profile.

Navarra provided The Verge and Twitter with some nice examples that showcased a variety of entertaining fashions. As they did with Lensa, I could envision a lot of people messing around with this tool to create imaginative avatars of themselves. TikTok didn’t immediately reply to a request for comment.
