Tech companies teaming up against Trump

Trump’s travel ban has opposed by major tech companies in US. But now all the leading companies have joined hands in order be pitted against the President’s policy. Apple, Airbnb, Facebook, Google, Netflix, and many other tech companies have decided to stand against the ban. The companies are standing in one row because they consider the ban to be unlawful, discriminatory, and harmful for the entire public.

According to a draft that was filed on February 3rd, immigrants to the US economy bring success to the businesses in the country. More than 200 of the companies have been founded by the immigrants or their children on the Fortune 500 list, including Ford, Kraft, Apple, General Electric, Disney, Boeing, McDonalds, Google, and AT&T. around 28% of businesses have been opened up by immigrants in the US during between 2006 and 2010. It also draws towards the negative impacts of the restrictive order on the businesses in US that largely depend on the freedom to hire overseas talented individuals.

It clearly states that immigrants are not responsible for taking away jobs from US citizens instead create more opportunities in the country. There are extremely helpful in expanding the workforce in the country and help companies to find the kind of workers that are required by the Tech companies in US. The new policy has added uncertainty among other countries as well. They fear the policy ban to be imposed and suddenly added to the no-entry list.

Silicon Valley has responded to this policy as extremely unlawful and is struggling to undo President Trump’s order. A $4 million crises fund had been set up by Google in order to help the people who have been effected by the order. A donation of $1 million has been pledge by Twitter and Lyft to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) to fight for the rights of immigrants in US. Brian Chesky, the Airbnb CEO host has promised a free housing for the people who have been left stranded due to Trump’s policy. The most interesting part of the whole situation is that among all the tech companies fighting against the President’s policy, Amazon is not taking a chance of supporting the immigrant workers. It did opposed the policy initially but now it seems nowhere to be seen protesting for the rights.

On Friday night, the request for restoring the travel ban got rejected by a Federal judge in the country. But authorities are going to appeal to the US courts for the 9th Circuit and we will see whether the efforts by tech leaders have any impact on the results.

The protest by tech companies clearly is a support for their own means of interest i.e. supporting the workers they actually rely on. But no matter what the reason is, it may be the only way to stand against the unlawful executive orders of President Trump.
