Pakistan Launches Its First QR-Based Digital ID System

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has launched a new digital identity platform called Khyber Pass, aimed at giving citizens easy and centralized access to government services.

Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur officially rolled out the system on Tuesday during a ceremony at the Chief Minister’s House.

What Is the Khyber Pass?

Khyber Pass is the first digital identity platform in Pakistan to use QR code technology, fully integrated with NADRA and other official databases. The goal? To make public services more accessible and efficient.

Now people don’t need to submit the same documents again and again. They can use their unique QR code. It gives them access to personal records and services online.

One Digital ID for Everything

The system allows residents to use a single digital account linked to a QR code to get services related to

  • Healthcare

  • Education

  • Taxation

  • Property records

  • Licensing

  • And more

This unified access means no more long queues or multiple visits to different offices. Everything is available in one place.

What’s Available Right Now?

At launch, three services are active on the Khyber Pass platform. According to CM Gandapur, more services—including the Sehat Card—will be added soon. The broader plan is to eventually integrate all provincial services into this single system.

A Step Toward Digital Governance

The Chief Minister said this move follows Imran Khan’s vision. The goal is to make governance more efficient and transparent. He said digitization isn’t just about tech. It helps reduce corruption and improve public services.

Gandapur pointed out that earlier digital reforms had already saved the province billions. For example:

  • Rs. 3 billion saved through the digitization of challans

  • Rs. 13 billion saved in Sehat Card spending thanks to better monitoring systems, even though more people used the service

Since taking office, he said, the provincial treasury has grown to Rs. 190 billion, thanks in part to these reforms.

What’s Next?

The CM made it clear that digital services at your doorstep are the end goal. Strengthening the IT department and expanding platforms like Khyber Pass will remain a top priority.

He wrapped up by saying the government is committed to building a more transparent, modern, and service-focused province, and Khyber Pass is just the beginning.
