HEC to introduce online system for degree verification

Higher Education Commission (HEC) has recently issued a statement to the government and private universities regarding its degree verification system. According to the notification, HEC will be introducing an online system for verification of degrees. The executive director Dr Arshad Ali stated that all degrees, diplomas, and certificates will be verified only by HEC. The universities though will not be authorized to verify any.

The aim behind this online verification system is to solve the issues regarding degree authentication in the country. Currently, the degrees are being verified from regional offices of Quetta, Karachi, and Lahore. But this system is soon expected to start working online from all over Pakistan.

The process will be pretty simple. After getting degrees scanned, students will be required to upload the degrees in the HEC’s online system. This system will be linked to National Database and the Regulation Authority (NADRA).

The first step will involve the student’s identity verification. A Pakistan qualification register is being created by HEC which will entail all the details of government and private universities degree programs. If the details of any degree program are not present in the register, the student’s degree will not get verified. Also, the controller examination of all universities will be given access to databases by HEC for further verification of the scanned degrees.
