Google Maps Introduces Voice Search and Command ‘OK Google’

Google, finally has updated “Google Maps” for Android with the new feature. ‘OK Google‘ It means— users will no longer have to tap microphone icon to speak when they drive.

It will work in a pretty cool way and take commands. Users will just say ‘Ok Google’ and then give a voice command to start navigation for new destination or ask a question.

The best part is, with ‘Ok Google’, users will be able to ask Google Maps questions such as “How’s traffic ahead” or “What road is this?“. The hassle of picking your phone while driving and looking for such answers to the questions goes away now.

Google has released a help manual to assist you in getting started with ‘Ok Google’. The most popular ones are:

  • “Show route overview.” or “Show alternate routes.”
  • “What road is this?”
  • “What’s my next turn?”
  • “What’s my ETA?”
  • “How’s traffic ahead?” or “How’s traffic to home?”
  • “Avoid tolls.” or “Enable tolls.”

Other more popular commands include:

  • “Call Mom.”
  • “Find gas stations.” or “Find restaurants.”

Right now the feature is for US but it will be introduced to the rest of the world very soon.
