Starting in August 2026, Microsoft has announced that it would no longer be adding new features to its 365 Office programs for Windows 10. Security patches will be released until 2028, but feature development will only focus on Windows 11.
Updates to Features Will End in Phases
Microsoft’s timetable states that after August 2026, business customers on the Current Channel and members to Microsoft 365 Personal and Family would no longer be able to access new Office features on Windows 10. On October 13, 2026, feature support for monthly enterprise channel users will come to an end. Starting January 12, 2027, customers of the semi-annual enterprise channel will no longer get feature upgrades.

Microsoft overturned a ruling earlier this year that would have stopped Office app security updates on Windows 10. Since then, the business has pledged to keep security upgrades up to date until October 10, 2028. However, users must update to Windows 11 in order to utilize Microsoft 365’s most recent productivity features.
Even with Microsoft’s attempts to promote updates, a sizable portion of customers continue to use Windows 10. Even though Windows 11 just overtook Windows 10 as the most popular desktop operating system, millions of older systems are still in use. Although extended security updates, including a free year if users enable Windows Backup, will be available, Microsoft will discontinue general support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025.
