TikTok Launches New Features to Support Songwriters

TikTok is rolling out new tools aimed at helping songwriters shine on the platform. Currently in beta, the update includes a “Songwriter” label and a dedicated tab on user profiles to showcase their original music. The goal? To help songwriters promote their work and attract potential clients or collaborators.

Right now, access to these features is limited to a small group of publishing partners and selected songwriters. Others who are interested will need to join a waitlist as TikTok expands the program.

TikTok built these tools after hearing from the songwriting community. The company surveyed over 870 songwriters. It also held in-depth interviews with many of them. The goal was to understand what songwriters need from social media. They focused on personal branding and ways to earn money.

An independent survey cited by TikTok found that more than half of songwriters already use social media to boost their visibility, and many of them turn to TikTok as their go-to platform. That insight helped shape this new feature rollout.

“We’re deeply committed to supporting songwriters at TikTok,” said the company’s Global Head of Music Publishing Licensing and Partnership. “These new tools are designed to spotlight their talent, tell the stories behind their music, and help them build a bigger audience—right alongside the content they already create.”

TikTok is just now adding tools for songwriters. But other platforms have offered similar features for a while. Spotify, for example, has let songwriters display their credits for years.

Tidal went even further last year. It launched tools that help songwriters track royalties and manage their work. TikTok shut down its music streaming app, TikTok Music. But the main app still plays a big role in music discovery. Artists and creators use TikTok to share their tracks and reach fans.

Earlier this year, TikTok launched a dashboard called “TikTok for Artists.” It lets musicians track how their songs and campaigns are performing. Now, with the new tools for songwriters, TikTok is making its goals clear.

It doesn’t just want to be a place for viral videos. It wants to support all kinds of music creators and help them grow.
