Elon Musk has once again shaken the tech world this time by taking Apple and OpenAI to court. His AI company, xAI, has filed a lawsuit in Texas, accusing the two giants of squeezing out competition and creating an unfair monopoly in the fast growing world of artificial intelligence.
According to the complaint, Apple’s exclusive deal with OpenAI has made it nearly impossible for rivals like xAI’s Grok chatbot to gain visibility on the App Store. Musk argues that if it weren’t for this partnership, Apple would have no reason to hide or downplay competing apps.
This legal move didn’t come out of nowhere. Just weeks ago, Musk publicly warned Apple that he would sue if it continued to favor OpenAI’s ChatGPT. With ChatGPT now integrated directly into iPhones, iPads, and Macs, the concern is clear: smaller players fear being shut out before they even get a fair chance to compete.

For Musk, this is more than just business. His company xAI, launched less than two years ago, has been racing to build alternatives in the AI space. After acquiring X (formerly Twitter) for $33 billion earlier this year, he’s been pouring resources into developing Grok and other AI tools even integrating them into Tesla vehicles.
Apple and OpenAI have so far stayed silent on the lawsuit, but this case is bound to spark heated debates around big tech monopolies, fairness in app stores, and the future of AI innovation.
Musk’s move also echoes other battles Apple has faced most notably its ongoing clash with Epic Games over App Store policies. But with AI now becoming the core of how we use technology, the stakes feel even higher.
This lawsuit isn’t just about Musk, Apple, or OpenAI. It’s about whether the next big breakthrough in AI will come from an underdog startup or remain in the hands of tech giants.
