Apple has rolled out iOS 18.6.2, and the company is warning iPhone users to update right away. This version contains a critical security fix for a flaw already being exploited in real-world attacks.
Unlike larger updates, iOS 18.6.2 comes with a single patch, but it’s an important one. Apple has intentionally kept details limited to give users more time to install the update before attackers can expand their campaigns.

The flaw, tagged CVE-2025-43300, is tied to Image/IO. This framework lets iOS apps process image files. The bug can trigger memory corruption if someone opens or receives a harmful image.

Experts warn that memory corruption is dangerous. It can let attackers change storage, crash apps, or run harmful code.
According to Jake Moore, global cybersecurity advisor at ESET, this type of exploit could let hackers take full control of an iPhone.

Possible Spyware Exploits
The urgency of this fix comes only three weeks after iOS 18.6. That update patched 29 flaws. Apple has not confirmed it, but researchers think the bug fixed in 18.6.2 was tied to spyware. Some even link it to nation-state actors.
These attacks often rely on zero-click exploits. The user does nothing at all. A harmful image sent through iMessage or WhatsApp could install spyware in silence. Once active, the malware could monitor everything on the device—including encrypted chats on WhatsApp and Signal.
