Threads Launches ‘Dear Algo’ AI to Customize Your Feed

Meta-owned social network Threads is rolling out a new AI-powered feature that lets users temporarily tailor their feeds, the company announced Wednesday. The feature, called “Dear Algo,” allows users to tell Threads what they want to see more or less of for a short period.

To use it, simply create a public Threads post starting with “Dear Algo,” followed by your request. For example: “Dear Algo, show me more posts about podcasts.” Threads will adjust your feed for the next three days based on your input.

Because requests are made through public posts, other users can see them and even repost them to apply the same adjustments to their own feeds. Some users may find this public aspect limiting, but Meta views it as a way to spark discovery and engagement, turning personalization into a shared experience.

By giving users the ability to temporarily influence their feed, Threads distinguishes itself from competitors with a feature that isn’t available on other platforms.

Threads is where you go to keep up with what’s happening right now,” the company wrote in a blog post. “But sometimes what matters to you changes in an instant. Dear Algo lets your feed reflect that — whether it’s seeing more posts during a live NBA game or fewer posts about a show you haven’t watched yet.”

While Threads, X, and Bluesky already let users indicate preferences with a “Not Interested” button, Dear Algo goes further, offering more granular control. The feature could also help make Threads feel more real-time, an area where X has traditionally excelled.

Dear Algo is currently available in the U.S., New Zealand, Australia, and the U.K., with plans to expand to additional countries.

The launch comes weeks after a report from market intelligence firm Similarweb suggested Threads now surpasses X in daily mobile usage. Although X still leads on the web, the Threads mobile app for iOS and Android has seen steady growth in daily active users.

According to the report, Threads had 141.5 million daily mobile users as of January 7, 2026, compared with 125 million for X.
