Ryan Beiermeister, OpenAI’s former vice president of product policy, was dismissed in January after a male colleague accused her of sex discrimination, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal.
She told the Journal.
Beiermeister denied the allegation. “The allegation that I discriminated against anyone is absolutely false,”
The Journal reported that her termination followed internal criticism she raised about a proposed ChatGPT feature known as “adult mode.” The feature would introduce erotica into the chatbot experience. Fidji Simo, OpenAI’s CEO of Applications, who oversees consumer-facing products, has previously said the feature is expected to launch in the first quarter of this year.

According to the report, Beiermeister and other employees voiced concerns about how the “adult mode” feature could affect certain users.
OpenAI reportedly said Beiermeister “made valuable contributions during her time at OpenAI,” adding that her departure “was not related to any issue she raised while working at the company.” She was fired after a leave of absence, the Journal reported.
Beiermeister’s LinkedIn profile shows she previously spent four years on Meta’s product team and more than seven years at Palantir.
