Spotify is expanding its messaging features with the rollout of group chats. Users can now share podcasts, playlists, and audiobooks with up to 10 people at a time.
How Spotify Group Chat Works
To start a chat, you must have previously shared content with someone. This could be through a collaborative playlist, or if you’ve joined a Jam or Blend together. Once a connection exists, you can begin a group conversation with those users.
Social Features on Spotify
This update is part of Spotify’s ongoing effort to make the platform more social. Over the years, Spotify has introduced features like
- Podcast comments
- Following other users
- Seeing what friends are listening to.
Security Details
Spotify messages are encrypted in transit and at rest, keeping your conversations private from outside parties. However, the messages are not protected by end-to-end encryption.
