Microsoft has announced that its AI chatbot, Copilot, will no longer be available on WhatsApp after January 15. After this date, users cannot chat with Copilot on WhatsApp. Instead, they must switch to Microsoft’s Copilot mobile apps or access the chatbot via the web.

The company is removing Copilot from WhatsApp to comply with the platform’s new policies. Meta announced last month that WhatsApp will no longer support general-purpose AI chatbots through its WhatsApp Business API. These resources will now be reserved for other types of businesses.

This change does not stop businesses from using AI to serve customers. However, it ends WhatsApp as a distribution channel for AI chatbots. Companies affected include Microsoft, OpenAI, Perplexity, and others.

OpenAI has also confirmed it will wind down its WhatsApp integration in January.

Copilot users should note that their WhatsApp chat history will not carry over to Microsoft’s platform. Since WhatsApp access was unauthenticated, conversations cannot be automatically saved. Microsoft recommends users export chats using WhatsApp’s built-in tools before January 15.
