Users using Windows 11 appear to be having a hard time these days. The most recent August 2025 important security update came with issues, According to Microsoft, and for some users, it just won’t install.
The company admits that the update may fail with the error code 0x80240069, which affects the Windows 11 24H2 August 2025 Update. While Microsoft insists that this issue mostly impacts enterprise environments (since it’s tied to Windows Server Update Services), the news still comes as another frustrating chapter in a series of recent update headaches.
Tech site Windows Latest first flagged the problem, calling it “a headache” for those affected. Microsoft has since acknowledged the issue and rolled out an emergency fix. According to the company, the fix will automatically be pulled via Windows Update, but IT admins can also manually apply the ‘KB5063878 250814_00551 Known Issue Rollback’ policy if needed.
This isn’t the first time error code 0x80240069 has shown up. Microsoft says the same problem hit thousands of customers back in April 2025, but it’s unclear how it made its way back into this month’s update. The company is already testing another patch, which will be rolled out in a future Windows update.
A series of update failures and fast emergency patches have affected Windows 11 in recent months, further aggravating consumer annoyance. This is particularly true given the current ESU (Extended Security Updates) dispute, which has prevented many Windows 10 users from updating.
Microsoft claims that it is now “working on implementing the solution in a future operating systems update” and will provide further information as soon as it becomes available. In the meanwhile, if you see that annoying error code, at least you know that help is on the way and you’re not alone.
