WhatsApp is getting ready to release a significant update to its voice recording tool to make the procedure much faster and easier. Users will only need to press once to record voice messages thanks to the new feature.
Beta Testing Underway
According to WABetaInfo, some beta testers using the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS (version 25.13.10.70) via the TestFlight app can already try out this simplified recording method.
Current Voice Recording Methods
Currently, WhatsApp users have two options for sending a voice message:
-
Press and Hold Method: Users must press and hold the microphone button in a chat. Releasing the button after recording for at least one second sends the message.
-
Slide-to-Lock Method: Users can speak without holding the button by pressing and sliding the microphone button upward to activate a lock for longer recordings.
What’s Changing?
The upcoming update will unify both methods into a single, more streamlined experience:

-
A single tap on the microphone button will automatically activate the lock mode.
-
Users will no longer need to press and hold or swipe up to continue recording.
-
This new system removes the need for additional gestures, making the voice recording process quicker and more intuitive.
Why This Update Matters
This small yet significant change is expected to:
-
Reduce friction in sending voice messages.
-
Make communication faster and more natural.
-
Simplify the experience, especially for those who send voice messages regularly.
Adjusting to the New Feature
While the updated behavior might initially feel unfamiliar to users accustomed to the traditional method, most will likely find it easy and efficient after a few uses.
Rollout Details
The new feature is currently available to a limited number of beta testers and will gradually roll out to more users in the coming weeks.
