The messaging app WhatsApp, owned by Meta, has developed a feature capable of instant transcription of voice notes into text. The update helps users with the claim that checking messages is less strenuous compared to the audio format. Its use is crucial within noisy settings or situations that require more discretion when reading messages.
This feature also provides greater access for individuals who have difficulty hearing by placing voice messages into text for the user to read.
How the Voice-to-Text Feature Works
Transcripts are created on the user’s device, which preserves privacy through complete encryption. Neither WhatsApp nor anybody else can gain access to these transcripts, as stated in the WhatsApp blog.
To transcribe a voice message:
- Long-press the voice message.
- Tap the “Transcribe” button.
Supported Languages and Future Updates
Currently, the feature supports:
- English
- Portuguese
- Spanish
- Russian
WhatsApp plans to add more languages soon.
