The latest version of WhatsApp for Android, 2.25.11.10, was been made available through the Google Play Beta Program. Currently accessible to some beta testers, this update adds a useful new feature that lets users control chat message animations.
Previously, in the 2.25.1.10 beta update, WhatsApp had started working on this feature to give users more control over animated content in their chats. Now, it looks like they’re beginning to test it publicly.
Some beta testers have noticed a new feature in the app settings with the most recent update, which allows them to choose how animations show up in chats. Emoji, stickers, and GIF animations may now be controlled independently, making messaging more customized and distraction-free.

For example:
-
Emojis: You can turn off the new animated emojis (made using the Lottie framework), so they’ll appear static in chats.
-
Stickers: If sticker animations are disabled, animated stickers won’t move unless you tap on them.
-
GIFs: You can stop GIFs from playing automatically — they’ll only animate when you tap them.
Originally, WhatsApp considered using just one toggle to simultaneously turn off all animations. But they chose a better approach during development by giving users individual controls. This way, you can choose what works best for you — maybe you like GIFs but find animated emojis distracting. Now you can control each type independently.
Since this feature is being rolled out gradually, you may already see it in your settings if you updated to version 2.25.11.10 and are a member of the beta program. In the upcoming weeks, more users should obtain it.
