Google Rolls Out New Platform to Empower AI Startups

Google has just launched the AI Futures Fund, a new program designed to support startups building with the latest AI tools from Google DeepMind, its advanced research division.

The fund is open to startups at all stages — from seed to late-stage — and offers a variety of benefits. These include:

  • Early access to Google’s AI models developed by DeepMind

  • Opportunities for cooperation with DeepMind and Google Labs specialists

  • Google Cloud credits to support development

  • In some cases, direct investment from Google

Unlike traditional programs, there are no deadlines or fixed application windows. A Google spokesperson said,

“We consider opportunities on a rolling basis.”

They also noted that investment amounts will vary depending on the startup’s stage and needs.

The AI Futures Fund is already working with companies to show its early reach, like

  • Viggle (a meme creation platform)
  • Toonsutra (a webtoon app)

Startups can begin applying from May 12.

This action is a component of Google’s larger initiative to support AI innovation:

  • In November, Google.org committed $20 million to support researchers and scientists working on AI projects.
Back in September, CEO Sundar Pichai introduced the Global AI Opportunity Fund—a $120 million initiative aimed at expanding access to AI education and training worldwide.
More recently, Google.org also launched a $20 million accelerator program to fund nonprofits focused on building solutions with generative AI.

Additionally, Google continues to run its Google for Startups Founders Fund, which now includes a new focus on AI startups in the U.S. Investments are expected to roll out this year, with more updates to come.
