According to a Monday update that 9to5Google was the first to notice, Google Gemini customers can now contact the AI chatbot straight from the iPhone’s locked screen. By installing a Gemini widgets on the lock screen, users may now activate Google’s AI chatbot’s virtually real-time voice function, Gemini Live, without unlocking their phone.
Opponents in the AI industry are jumping in to provide iPhone customers with customized AI assistants, since Apple’s version of an Artificial intelligence Siri is allegedly delayed until 2027. Although Apple’s version of an LLM-powered Siri may be much better integrated with the iPhone’s additional capabilities when it eventually debuts, these capabilities may provide iPhone customers an idea of what is feasible with LLMs and virtual assistants.
Additionally, ChatGPT’s iOS app allows users to access Extreme speech Mode, OpenAI’s nearly real-time speech functionality, without leaving the lock screen.

In addition to Gemini Live, the redesigned Gemini app has a number of different lock screen components, such as one that allows users to go directly to messaging with Gemini, one that allows customers to take photographs with their iPhone’s camera and submit them to Gemini, and one that allows users to make appointments and notifications.

Additionally, Google said Monday that towards the end of March, Android Gemini users will be able to ask its AI chatbot queries regarding video and screen content and receive real-time responses. The Gemini app is gradually incorporating these functionalities, which were initially introduced as part of Google DeepMind’s multifunctional AI effort, effort Astra. These capabilities will first be accessible to users of Google’s Gemini Premium plan, which costs $20 per month.
