YouTube is testing a new feature aimed at getting more people involved during livestreams — a live engagement leaderboard.
The idea is simple: during some livestreams, YouTube will now highlight the viewers who interact the most. These top fans will be ranked based on the points they earn — called XP — from things like sending live chat messages, Super Chats, Super Stickers, or gifts.
Take a look at the EXPOSUREEE YouTube channel for an early example. There, viewers can see who’s leading in real-time.
Here’s how it works:
- When viewers take part in a livestream — chatting, sending stickers, or supporting the creator with paid features — they earn XP.
- At the top of the chat window, they’ll see a crown icon showing their current score.
- Clicking that crown opens the full leaderboard, listing the 50 most engaged viewers on that creator’s channel.
- The top three even get a special badge next to their name during the stream.
It’s a smart move that adds a bit of fun and competition. For creators, it means more comments and support. For viewers, it’s a new way to stand out — especially in gaming streams where competition is already part of the culture.

Sure, some people might see this as a gimmick. There’s no real prize or reward here, apart from maybe catching the creator’s eye. But let’s be honest — that’s more than enough for many fans.
Plus, it benefits YouTube too. More interaction often leads to more people using paid features, which means more money for both YouTube and creators.
Right now, this feature is only being tested with a small group. And if you’re not into it, don’t worry — viewers can choose to opt out of showing up on the leaderboard.
