Current Upload Limits and What’s Changing

Until now, premium (paying) subscribers on X could upload videos in 1080p, with a maximum file size of 8GB and a length of up to three hours, based on the platform’s official support page. With 4K uploads on the horizon, likely, file size limits will also be adjusted to accommodate the higher resolution.

X’s Video Strategy Under Elon Musk

Since Elon Musk took over the platform, X has gradually increased its support for long-form, high-quality video content. The most recent step in a larger plan to entice producers to post more video content directly on the platform is the implementation of 4K uploads.

Competing with YouTube and TikTok

Additionally, X introduced a vertical video stream earlier this year, with a quick-access shortcut on the mobile app’s home screen. This function appears to be intended to attract some of the audience moving away from TikTok, particularly in light of the possible ban in the United States.
