From scheduling meetings to making purchases online, these AI agents are being pitched as the next big leap after chatbots like ChatGPT and Claude. But while the vision is futuristic, the path forward is far from smooth.
Experts warn that the biggest challenge is Trust. Handing over decisions, data, and money to AI requires more confidence than most people currently have. Stories of AI “Hallucinations” and flawed outputs have already made companies wary. And when it comes to sensitive actions like shopping or filing documents, even one wrong move can break customer confidence.
No 1. Currently Lacking Agents
AI agents need to work with banks, shops, and government portals. Most of these systems aren’t ready.
Some “Computer using agents” mimic human clicks, but results are buggy. Errors are common. If an agent files the wrong form or makes a purchase mistake, who takes the blame? The user? The company? The AI maker?
Until this is solved, many organizations will hold back.

Security is an even bigger issue. AI agents often need full access data, accounts, even money. If hacked, they could leak files, approve fake invoices, or make purchases. Combined with deepfakes and scams, the risks are high.

For progress, security has to be stronger. Smarter isn’t enough. Agents must also be safe.
