Starting November 21, 2025, a one-year residence permit will be made available to international remote workers by the Slovenian government. This permit has been introduced to provide non-residents the chance to live in Slovenia while continuing their work remotely for employers or clients based outside the country.
This marks the first time a formal path has been included in Slovenia’s immigration system for remote professionals. Under the conditions of the permit, residence will be granted without access to the Slovenian labor market, allowing individuals to remain employed abroad while residing locally.
Slovenia Digital Nomad Visa Requirements
The visa has been structured for non-EU/EEA nationals engaged in remote work. Eligible applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
- Employment by a company headquartered outside Slovenia
- Provision of freelance or contract services to international clients
- Self-employment involving digital services delivered outside Slovenia
Work for Slovenian companies or clients is not allowed under this visa.

Visa Duration and Reapplication Policy
A 12-month stay will be granted. Consecutive renewals are not allowed, though reapplication is permitted six months after a previous permit expires. This allows returning applicants some flexibility under the program’s structure.
Proof of Financial Stability
Applicants must show that they can support themselves financially. Documents accepted as evidence may include:
- Employment or service contracts
- Recent pay slips
- Bank statements reflecting regular income
The specific income threshold will be determined and published by the Slovenian authorities.
Application Options
Two submission routes are available:
- From abroad, applications must be submitted at a Slovenian consulate or embassy
- From within Slovenia, local administrative units will receive applications
Applicants already inside Slovenia will be issued a temporary residence certificate while their full application is reviewed.
Family Members’ Access
Spouses and children may apply for residence permits connected to the main applicant’s visa. However, they will not be allowed to work unless they independently qualify under the same visa requirements.
Restrictions Attached to the Visa
This visa cannot be used for:
- Employment by Slovenian companies
- Running a business based in Slovenia
- Earning income from Slovenian sources
Any violation may lead to visa termination and a future entry ban.
