Microsoft Rejects Erotic AI Trend, Focuses on Safe Conversations
While other companies are pushing AI chatbots into personal and even romantic territories, Microsoft is taking a different road. Its AI chief, Mustafa Suleyman, says the company has no interest in developing flirtatious or adult style AI chats.
“We want to build emotionally intelligent AIs that are supportive and trustworthy,” Suleyman told CNN. “But that also means setting clear boundaries.”
Setting a Moral Boundary in the AI Race
While OpenAI and Meta are experimenting with AI personalities capable of romance or adult talk, Microsoft believes that’s a dangerous direction. The company says its goal is to create AI that strengthens real human connections, not replaces them.
Currently, Microsoft Copilot has 100 million monthly active users, compared to ChatGPT’s800 million. Despite the gap, Suleyman believes Microsoft’s family-safe approach will attract a broader, more responsible audience over time.

- Smarter health responses that recommend local doctors
- A “real talk” tone for casual but safe conversations

Instead of creating digital relationships, Microsoft wants Copilot to bring people closer together. Its design philosophy centers on encouraging real world collaboration from classrooms to offices.
As Suleyman wrote earlier this year, “We must build AI for people, not to be a digital person.”
