Instagram Just Dropped New Updates for Its Edits App

Instagram is back with more updates for its Edits app, and this round adds some pretty cool tools for creators who like to tweak and polish their videos.

Here’s what’s new this week:

  • More Transitions: You’ve now got even more ways to spice up your video cuts. The app added fresh effects like “Zoom Ripple” and “Vertical Stretch.” In total, there are now 35 transitions to pick from, giving your videos more edge and movement.
  • Better Cut Control: Trimming clips just got smoother. You can now fine-tune the edges of each clip more precisely, making those micro-edits way easier to handle.
  • Volume Control for All Clips: Instead of adjusting the sound on every clip one by one, you can now apply volume changes across all clips at once. So, no more random loud parts or awkward silent moments.

These changes are part of Instagram’s push to make Reels a real contender in the short-form video space — basically, it’s going after CapCut.

And to be honest, they’re on the right track. The app’s still free (for now), and the toolset keeps getting stronger with every update.

That said, don’t be surprised if some premium features get locked behind a paywall down the line. Instagram’s head, Adam Mosseri, has already hinted that some of the advanced AI tools might come with a price tag, mostly because they cost more to run.

Still, if the features are good enough, most serious creators won’t mind paying for them.

Bottom line: Edits keep leveling up, and if you’re into video creation, it’s worth keeping an eye on.
