According to a recent investigation conducted by cybersecurity company CloudSEK, India may suffer a financial setback of roughly ₹20,000 crore because of cyber-related crimes in 2025. The report stresses the point that brand infringement, phishing attacks, and the creation of fictitious domains will have the biggest share of cybercrimes this year. Even with the presence of new technologies such as Artificial intelligence (AI), it is expected that the perpetrators will continue to use advanced social engineering techniques for Ponzi schemes. Specifically, the misuse of the brand is expected to result in loss of value close to ₹9,000 crore out of the total economic losses.
Brand misuse, Infringement, and Fake Domains: New Dangers
CloudSEK’s new white paper suggests that brand abuse, which is the impersonation of established brands, has emerged as one of the powerful weapons among cybercriminals. The paper suggests that impersonification of brands will greatly outweigh estimates for economic damages of ₹ 20,000 crore in 2025 from the economic cost of cyber crimes.
Apart from the misuse of revered brand names, these unscrupulous mobile apps and fake websites are further designed to trick people and companies out of their money. The report explains that scammers are adapting faster to these techniques and are making more elaborate and larger schemes with every passing day.
Financial Sector Among the Hardest Hit
CloudSEK’s sector-wise analysis suggests that financial institutions will suffer the highest losses, estimated at ₹8,200 crore, or 41% of the total impact. Following closely are the retail and e-commerce industries, which together will account for 29% of the financial losses. Government services are also expected to bear a significant burden, with projected losses of ₹3,400 crore (17% of the total).

Data Insights and Past Cybercrime Trends
The report is based on data collected from 200 organizations, including more than 5,000 domain takedowns observed by CloudSEK and 16,000 brand-related cyber threat incidents. Additionally, it references official figures from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), which reported that India suffered cybercrime losses of approximately ₹11,333 crore in the first nine months of 2024. The report predicts a sharp rise in cyberattacks throughout 2025.
Impact on Businesses and Individuals
The financial and reputational impact of cybercrimes will have a big effect on the companies. Businesses are projected to spend ₹6,000 crore on remediation processes, legal aid expenditure, customer reimbursements, and protective measures. The falsification of trademarked brand names and logos for fraudulent purposes will wreak additional havoc upon the corporate world’s respect.
However, the greatest strain from these cybercrimes will be placed upon people’s shoulders. They speculate in the report that damages inflicted upon the general public’s wealth will come close to ₹14,000 crore by 2025. Phishing, fake job offers, and other misleading investment offers will be the tools of the attackers.
Conclusion
As is evident, business people and citizens will have to remain careful due to the heightened threat of cybercrime. The investment towards the security systems and infrastructure, the user education regarding Internet fraud, and other preemptive measures are the most important steps to ensure that these risks are avoided. As much as the criminals may change their tactics to commit more cybercrime in India, it’s how well prepared this country is at dealing with modern digital offenses that will sustain economic health further down the line.
