I’ve been working in SEO for about 3 years, and during that time, I’ve discovered a few clever tricks that really work when it comes to guest posting.
No fluff, no guru nonsense. These are easy tips you can start using right away to see better results.
Let’s jump right in.
-
Embed Your Google Maps Listing in Guest Posts
If you (or your client) have a Google Business Profile, this one’s a free win. Embedding that little map in your guest post helps boost trust, and Google loves trust signals.
Here’s how you do it:
- Search the business name on Google.
- Click on the Maps section.
- Hit “Share” > “Embed a map” > Copy the code.
- Pass that code to the site owner, and ask them to drop it in the code editor.
Easy, free, and it gives your guest post that extra local relevance—especially helpful for local businesses!

Stop Linking to Big Sites Like Wikipedia
Everyone loves to toss in a Wikipedia or Forbes link, thinking Google will clap for them.
But guess what? A study by Jacob Bushmaker showed that linking to smaller, niche-relevant sites works way better for rankings.
Writing about dog training? Link to a small, dedicated dog training site, not Wikipedia’s “History of Dogs” page.
Also, make sure you’re using your target keywords in the anchor text when you link out. It helps.

Write in First Person — Yes, Use “I” and “My”
Ever noticed how Reddit posts are all over Google’s results now? That’s because people are sharing personal experiences, and Google’s all about that these days.
Take a look at shavercheck.com if you need proof. Despite being an affiliate site (and we know how hard those get hit), it’s still doing well because it’s full of first-hand opinions like
“My pick for the best entry-level shaver would be…”
That’s what Google wants — real opinions, not just dry facts. So when you’re writing, be real. Be you.
Also:
Ditch stock photos. Use original or AI-generated images.
Don’t just share facts — tell people what you think.
-
Link to Your Other Guest Posts
Most SEOs completely miss this. You’re already doing the hard work of guest posting.
Why not link those posts to each other? It powers up your older links and makes Google take your newer ones more seriously.
Just don’t overdo it. Keep this tactic to about 10–15% of your posts so it stays natural.

Get Links from the Right Sites
Don’t just grab links from any “relevant-looking” site. Dig deeper. Check where their backlinks are coming from.
For example, therubmd.com looks health-focused at first glance. But its backlinks mostly come from shopping, home, and business sites.
If you’re in the health niche, that’s not going to pass the right kind of link juice to you.
Use Majestic’s Topical Trust Flow to figure this out.
Majestic TTF doesn’t give you a number but rather tells you the niches a site is getting most of its links from.
It’s quick and saves you from wasting time and money.
That’s it! Five easy tricks you can start using today to make your guest posting game way stronger.
