Google said on Thursday that it is releasing a new experimental software called Doppl that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to show you how various clothes would look on you. In the US, the app is accessible on both iOS and Android.

How Doppl Works

Doppl lets you create a digital version of yourself to try on outfits virtually. To start, you upload a full-body photo. Then, you can upload or screenshot images of clothes—whether it’s something you saw on a friend, in a store, or online.

Once you choose an outfit, Doppl shows you a photo of yourself wearing it—virtually. The app even turns those photos into AI-generated videos, so you can see how the outfit might move and look in real life.

You can save your favorite looks, browse past outfits, and share them with others.

Why Google Built It

Doppl builds on Google Shopping’s existing virtual try-on tools. But instead of using preset models, Doppl uses your image to help you explore styles.

By offering this feature in a stand-alone app, Google hopes it’s easier and more fun for users to try on clothes digitally. It also helps Google learn how people might use this type of technology in the future.

A New Twist on Virtual Fashion

Earlier, Google’s tools focused on showing clothing on various models. With Doppl, the twist is personal—it’s you wearing the outfit.

“We hope Doppl helps you explore your style in new and exciting ways,” Google said in a blog post.

But they also note the app is still in early testing. That means the fit and look accuracy may vary.

What’s Next?

Right now, Doppl is only available in the U.S. There’s no word yet on if or when it will expand to more regions.

Still, it’s a promising step toward more personalized, interactive fashion experiences, powered by AI.
