Career Boosting Tips

Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words, they become actions. Watch your actions, they become habits. Watch your habits, they become character. Watch your character, it becomes your destiny” Lao Tzu.

Sometimes you feel stressed out at your job and it seems impossible to lighten the burden on your shoulders. This might be because you need to re-energize and re-motivate yourself to reach a level of career satisfaction.

The most important factor in boosting your career is the passion for your job. It gets easier to motivate yourself when you are doing a job that you love but it becomes harder at something you are not passionate about.

We often think about having the skills that we lack but do not pay attention to skills that we already have and take them for granted. It is better to identify your individual skills and evaluate where you can be a better fit. Focus yourself completely on your current career rather than wasting your precious time and energy on wandering “the grass is greener on the other side”.

There are few habits that you can adapt to help pursue your career.

Make the effort to hear, not just listen:

Listening is one of the most important skills you have. We listen to obtain information, understand, enjoy, and learn. But most of people are not good at listening; they do not give their full attention to it. In order to be successful in career, listening carefully is a habit that most of us lack. Listening to other person carefully helps us to extract better information and also it makes the other person feel much better.

Make the communication better:

Before starting on a project, it is always better if you double check and confirm what you are being asked. Conflicts arise when you work on projects that have not been clearly defined and explained. Managers due to shortage of time available do not explain the projects carefully. Employees due to poor interpretation of that work, end up in delivering a project different from manager’s expectations. Therefore it is always better to ask for a clear explanation of what you are being asked for rather than ending up in a situation where you feel frustrated with your job.

Saying “Thank You”:

According to a research, 68% of the people who receive a “thank you” note are left with a note in return. This is the beginning of strengthening relationships at work. Showing gratitude builds and maintains relationships

Take a few quiet moments of your own:

The continuous connection with others through the use of more and more technological devices has made people frustrated and depressed. Employers are always connected with their office work even after their working hours. The best way to reduce this stress is to make a daily habit of giving yoursef few silent moments. Clear your mental clutter and do not pay attention to any distractions. Few minutes of silence will energies you for your future work and you will be able to work efficiently.

Stick to your daily routine:

Creating a personal routine is one thing but sticking by the daily schedule is a totally different story. People are specific in making their plans but your plans are vague if you do not ever act on them. So make it a habit of being specific about everything. Keep a specific time for checking your emails and social media account and avoid getting distracted for the rest of the day.

Become your own best friend:

Delete anything negative from your life and become your own best friend. Support yourself in hard times, encourage yourself to do things, remind yourself about the qualities you have, remind yourself that you have the potential to overcome hurdles in life, and remind yourself that you are special in every sense. Set yourself up to face the world and approach every performance in life as it is the most important thing in the world. Keeping this positive perspective in life will help you to become successful in life and more productive at your work.

Track your progress towards your goals:

“Setting the goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible”. Tony Robbins

Goals are the foundation for your success, keeping track of your progress drive you towards the accomplishment. Remind yourself everyday what you are striving for; make it a daily ritual of writing down your short-term as well as long-term goals. Review the progress that you have made on those goals so you can clearly focus on your efforts for achieving those goals.

Be honest with yourself:

Getting honest with yourself is often the hardest part of your life. It means admitting to your weaknesses. This is the best habit that you can adopt in order to be successful in your life as well as in your career. When you know about your weaknesses, you spent time in order to fix them.

Live each day to its fullest rather than being on the survival mode.
