Building a Legacy: Focusing on People, Craft, and Mentorship

I’m currently in the early stages of expanding and refining my business a stage that is both exciting and challenging. As I look ahead, my greatest enthusiasm lies in three areas: focusing on people, perfecting my craft, and mentoring others.

I want my workplace to be a source of fulfillment, not just a job to ensure that work contributes to a balanced, meaningful life.

Equally important is active listening. I want to create an environment where my team feels safe and empowered to share ideas, concerns, and feedback whether it’s about business strategies, client relationships, or the tools and technologies we use. Listening fosters trust, and trust fuels innovation.

Beyond my immediate circle, I’m also passionate about strengthening my connection with the broader interior design and craftsmanship community. I plan to do this through public speaking, hosting events, and engaging in professional gatherings that bring creative minds together. Collaboration and community engagement expand our perspectives and open new doors for creativity and growth.

I encourage every professional no matter their field to seek ways to connect beyond their own workplace. True growth happens when we learn from others, share experiences, and support one another’s journeys.

The second area I’m deeply focused on is my craft the artistry and discipline behind what I do. In a fast-paced world, it’s easy to get caught up in management, strategy, and growth, but I believe that excellence in craft remains the soul of any business.

The joy of creating something beautiful and meaningful lies not just in the finished product but in the process itself the problem-solving, the creative experimentation, and the satisfaction of seeing a vision come to life. By continuing to learn, refine, and teach, I can ensure that the legacy of true craftsmanship remains alive for the next generation of creators.

No 3. Put Mentorship First

The third pillar of my focus is mentorship an area that has become increasingly important to me as my career has evolved.

Mentorship is not only about teaching; it’s about empowering others to discover their own strengths, take risks, and grow into leaders themselves. I’ve set aside dedicated time to mentor members of my team, sharing not just technical skills but also insights on leadership, communication, and resilience.

Letting go, however, is one of the most challenging parts of mentorship. To allow others to grow into their potential, I must step back from certain responsibilities that I’ve loved and give others the space to take ownership. But that’s also what leadership is about trusting others enough to let them shine.

Mentorship builds legacy. When we invest in others, we multiply our impact far beyond what we could accomplish alone.
