Apple and Google’s newly announced AI partnership may soon produce its first tangible results, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
Gurman reports that Apple plans to unveil an updated version of Siri in the second half of February. Powered by Google’s Gemini AI models, the new Siri is expected to be the first release that meaningfully delivers on the AI capabilities Apple previewed in June 2024—including the ability to complete tasks by tapping into a user’s personal data and on-screen content.
That update would arrive ahead of a much larger Siri overhaul Apple is reportedly preparing for its Worldwide Developers Conference in June. According to Gurman, that version is designed to be more conversational, resembling chat-based assistants like ChatGPT, and may run directly on Google’s cloud infrastructure.
The report comes after months of questions around Apple’s AI strategy. Previous reporting suggested the company had struggled to regain momentum, with Gurman noting that Apple executive Mike Rockwell privately dismissed one earlier report as “bulls–t.” But between the Google partnership and the recent departure of Apple’s AI chief, John Giannandrea, Apple now appears to be charting a clearer path forward.
