Amazon Brings Alexa+ to the Web With Launch of Alexa.com

Amazon is expanding its AI-powered assistant, now called Alexa+, to the web. At CES 2026 in Las Vegas, the company officially unveiled Alexa.com, which is currently rolling out to Early Access users. The website allows people to interact with Alexa+ online, similar to how they would with AI chatbots like ChatGPT or Google Gemini.

This move marks a major step in Amazon’s strategy to make Alexa+ accessible everywhere, not just on Echo devices or smartphones.

Alexa+ Moves Beyond the Home

Amazon’s Alexa ecosystem has over 600 million devices sold worldwide. The company wants Alexa+ to stay competitive in AI. It must be available online and on any device, including web browsers. This expansion lets people without Amazon devices use Alexa+. Alexa+ becomes a more universal AI assistant.

A More Conversational Mobile App

Alongside the web launch, Amazon is updating the Alexa mobile app. The app now has a chatbot-style interface. The homepage focuses on conversational AI. Alexa could chat before, but the new design prioritizes interaction. Users can generate content, explore topics, or plan activities easily.

Alexa+ Focuses on Families and Everyday Life

Alexa.com allows users to manage both digital and real-world tasks. Key features include:

  • Controlling smart home devices like thermostats and lights

  • Managing calendars, reminders, and family to-do lists

  • Making dinner reservations and updating shopping carts for Amazon Fresh or Whole Foods

  • Planning family movie nights with personalized suggestions

  • Saving and organizing recipes and event information

Alexa+ aims to differentiate itself by being family-focused, blending AI-powered productivity with home management capabilities.

Integration With Popular Services

Amazon has expanded Alexa+’s integrations beyond basic apps. New partnerships include Angi, Expedia, Square, and Yelp, in addition to existing services like OpenTable, Ticketmaster, Thumbtack, Uber, and Fodor’s.

The web interface also includes a navigation sidebar for quick access to frequent tasks, allowing users to pick up where they left off, whether it’s checking the calendar, reviewing shopping lists, or adjusting smart home devices.

Managing Personal Data Safely

Alexa+ encourages users to share emails, calendars, and documents to create a centralized hub for family organization. This feature allows Alexa+ to:

  • Track school holidays, sports schedules, and doctor appointments

  • Manage household tasks and reminders

  • Integrate shared documents into the Echo Show display for easy viewing and editing

Amazon faces a challenge here, as it does not have a full productivity suite like Google. Instead, Alexa+ relies on users uploading or forwarding files to manage tasks.

Unique Capabilities of Alexa+

Amazon claims that 76% of Alexa+ features are exclusive to the platform. Daniel Rausch, VP of Alexa and Echo, explained:

“Customers count on Alexa+ to do unique things. You can, for example, send a photograph of an old family recipe and then talk through it while cooking, substitute ingredients, and get the job done—all guided by Alexa+.”

The remaining 24% of tasks overlap with what other AI assistants can do, highlighting Alexa+’s dual role: unique home management and general AI assistance.

Early Access Shows High Engagement

Alexa+ Early Access is growing steadily. Rausch shared usage stats:

  • Tens of millions of users now have access

  • 2–3 times more conversations than the original Alexa

  • 3x more shopping via Alexa+

  • 5x more usage for recipes

  • 50% more smart home control compared with earlier devices

While some online complaints exist about misfires or mistakes, Rausch says the number of people opting out is minimal.

Backward Compatibility

Alexa+ is compatible with 97% of existing Alexa devices. All prior features and integrations remain supported, ensuring a seamless transition for users upgrading to Alexa+.

“Alexa+ carries forward tens of thousands of existing services and devices, maintaining the full Alexa ecosystem while adding new AI-powered capabilities,” Rausch added.

The Big Picture: Alexa+ as a Home AI Hub

With Alexa+ on the web, Amazon is positioning its AI as more than a voice assistant—it’s becoming a central hub for family life and home management. By combining personalized AI tasks with smart home control, Amazon hopes to make Alexa+ an essential tool for modern households.

This launch also represents a broader strategy to compete with other AI assistants, giving Amazon a foothold in the web-based AI assistant market while maintaining its dominance in the home.
