Mark Zuckerberg Says AI Glasses Will Be the Future of Human-AI Interaction

During Meta’s recent Q2 earnings call, CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared a bold prediction. In the near future, people who don’t wear AI powered glasses may be at a serious disadvantage.

In a conversation that echoed his earlier blog post on superintelligence, Zuckerberg painted a vivid picture of how glasses not phones or screens could become the main way we interact with artificial intelligence.

“Glasses are going to be the ideal form factor for AI,” he said. “They can see what you see, hear what you hear, and respond to you in real time.”

He went on to say that adding visual displays to these glasses whether it’s a wide, holographic field or a compact digital overlay will open even more possibilities. In his view, not having access to AI through something like smart glasses could eventually put you at a “significant cognitive disadvantage” compared to others who do.

Meta is already heavily invested in this space, rolling out smart glasses through partnerships with Ray Ban and Oakley. These wearables let users take pictures, listen to music, and even ask Meta AI about what’s around them. According to EssilorLuxottica, sales of the Ray Ban Meta glasses have more than tripled in the last year alone.

But it’s not just about selling glasses Zuckerberg sees this as the future of computing.

Meta’s Reality Labs, which is behind all these futuristic experiments, has cost the company billions (over $70 billion since 2020, with a $4.53B loss this past quarter alone). Still, Zuckerberg is doubling down on the long term vision, framing it as a bet on the next big thing a world where digital and physical experiences merge.

“We’ve been researching this for the past 5 to 10 years,” he said. “And now we’re finally starting to see how it could change everything.”

Others are exploring this space too. OpenAI’s acquisition of Jony Ive’s startup aims to create new AI devices, and companies like Humane and Limitless are experimenting with pins and pendants that work with AI. But glasses seem to have the most potential after all, they’re already a familiar part of everyday life.

Zuckerberg is confident: AI glasses won’t just be a tech gimmick they’ll shape how we live, work, and connect.

“What’s awesome about glasses is they can blend the digital and physical world in a seamless way,” he added. “They’re going to be a huge part of the Metaverse and the AI powered future we’re building.”
