If you’ve been wondering how to get a little more traction on Instagram, Adam Mosseri, the head of the platform, has shared two points worth knowing. These aren’t magic tricks that will blow up your numbers overnight, but they could give you a small lift.
First, Mosseri mentioned that videos made in Meta’s new Edits app are currently getting a slight reach boost when posted to Instagram.
“For now, Edits does help a little bit with reach. It’s not going to be something that’s going to be around forever. Don’t just use Edits to pass through content, because we can check for that. But we are trying to give the app a push, and we’ve found that predicting whether someone will tap the ‘Edits’ button is something we can use in ranking. That way, we can show more of this content to people likely to be interested in it and in the app itself.”
The takeaway: Instagram wants more people to notice Edits, so right now, clips made there are getting a nudge in distribution. With new features rolling out each week, the app might be worth exploring.

Second, Mosseri addressed a rumor that many creators still believe—that you need to watch or like posts in your niche for your content to reach the right audience. According to him, that’s not how the system works.
“One myth I learned recently about Instagram is that you have to interact with similar content to the content you create to maximize your reach. That is not the case. It’s great to interact with people in your comments and with your followers in general, but what you decide to consume is not going to affect who you reach with your content.”
In other words, the algorithm isn’t linking your viewing habits to your post reach. Sure, connecting with people in your niche can still help—they might follow you or interact with your work—but that’s a side effect of human connection, not a rule in Instagram’s code.
Mosseri summed it up simply:
“Engage with the content you enjoy, then focus on creating content your followers enjoy.”
So, while talking with your audience and networking in your niche still have their benefits, what you choose to watch or like won’t directly change your reach.
Small tips, but ones that could help you adjust how you approach your content strategy.
