A copy of a famous Newsweek magazine was presented for auction last month with an expected price between $10,00 to $15,000. To the owner’s surprise, the magazine was auctioned for over $50,000. This is 4 times higher than the price she was expecting.
Diane Williams from California met Steve Jobs in 1988. Back then, she used to work for a private company and saw Steve Jobs at a NeXT computers event. She asked for an autograph but Jobs refused saying “I don’t do autographs”. Diane requested Steve to write something from the heart, Steve Jobs agreed and wrote “I love manufacturing” on the cover of the magazine.
Diane Williams has kept that copy safe for over two decades.
“Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine that I would let it go. But it needs to be let go. I hope that it’s going to be an organization or an institution that puts it on display for others to be able to see.”
The magazine is sold in auction for US $50,587.
