Samsung may be joining the smart speaker fray

The smart speaker landscape seems to be getting congested with the inclusion of Amazon, Google, and Apple. Samsung is the latest to enter in this field and has been working to develop a connected speaker powered by its Bixby virtual assistant. This speaker is code-named as Vega that has been reported to be under construction for whole one year.

The final specs and features for the smart speaker have not been decided yet and no timings have been released by the company for its launch. The speakers built by Samsung are voice-activated and stationary. These can be used in living rooms or kitchens, for playing music, ordering food or even will be able to tell jokes. The thing that prominently separates them from the crowded field is that all actions can be performed without looking at the screen or even using hands.

Smart speakers as hubs that power future homes is becoming the latest trend among the leading tech companies. According to experts, the popularity for these speakers can increase up to 15 million units by the year 2020. Just last year, the popularity has been 1.8 million. The Bixby voice to Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus owners have been rolled out by Samsung for signing up for an early access bets. The company also aims to include the voice assistant in appliances such as refrigerators and televisions.
